Having the proper tools and training speeds recovery for most individuals. While home care nurses provide many of these benefits, the most effective recovery efforts happen when these professionals work in collaboration with in home therapists.

Overview of Therapeutic Care Services

Physical, Occupational and Speech therapist provide treatments in the home to help restore or maintain the patient’s ability to perform tasks used in everyday living. Their goal is to increase the patient’s independence and self-help skills.

Physical Therapy can provide:

• PT Evaluation

• Home Exercise Program

• Therapeutic Exercises

• Transfer, Gait and Balance Training

• Instruction on use of assistive devices

• Education on Bed Mobility Skills

• Teaching on Safety Precautions

• Patient/Caregiver/Family Education

Occupational Therapy can provide:

• OT Evaluation

• Home Exercise Program

• Home Safety Evaluation

• Teaching on Activities of Daily Living

• Assistance with Muscle Re-education

• Perceptual Motor Training

• Assistance with Fine Motor Coordination

• Therapeutic exercises for upper extremities

• Instruction on use of adaptive devices

• Teaching on alternative bathing skills

• Neuro-Developmental Training

• Re-Training of Cognitive, Feeding and Perceptual Skills

• Patient/Caregiver/Family Education

Speech Therapy can provide:

• ST Evaluation

• Home Exercise Program

• Education and training on Voice Disorders

• Education and training on Speech Articulation and Language Disorders

• Dysphagia Treatments

• Safe swallowing evaluations

• Teaching/Developing communication skills

• Therapy to increase articulation, proficiency and verbal expression

• Lip/Tongue/Facial exercises to improve swallowing and vocal skills

PT, SLP and OT are supportive programs that allow many individuals to realize their goals of recovering and remaining at home. They are typically prescribed for a short period of time and discontinued once a certain level of functioning is achieved or the patient’s goals are met.
